A useful enterprise IT asset inventory extends beyond employee computers and purchase dates. It should cover switches, firewalls, servers, storage, virtual machines, cloud subscriptions, domains, certificates, backup services, business applications, and supplier-managed platforms that can interrupt operations.

What an enterprise IT asset inventory must include

A company can account for every laptop and still be unable to explain who owns a domain, cloud subscription, certificate, backup service, virtual machine, firewall policy, or supplier-managed platform.
